About “Solar Mtaji”
Solar-Mtaji the program comes from two words solar which mean Energy from the sun and
Mtaji is a Kiswahili word which means Capital. We see solar as capital to businesses and hence
offer it as capital to youth and women in Tanzanian Rural areas. Based on this case, SEPON
LTD has come up with a business model that would like to replicate the same principle but on a
large scale. The model will enable many young people and people with special needs to start and
manage their businesses right at their rural homes hence creating sustainable and equitable
development

Solar Mtaji aims at facilitating a cross-sectoral dialogue, multi-stakeholder engagement and key
decision-makers participation in the transformation process from consumption to productive use
of Renewable energy in rural areas in Tanzania;
Specific objectives of Solar Mtaji

community engagement and coordination between the private sector, LGAs and

productive use of renewable energy, its implications for remote off-grid rural
community’s livelihood development and Poverty Reduction in those district (s) of
operation;

renewable energy adds value to local economic development and community
sustainability
Create Employment opportunities for rural youth and women as well as people living
with special needs in order to economically empower them.
The Solar Mtaji Target
